Oh, that my people would listen to my voice!

Psalm 81:13

“God, what do you want from me?” We’ve all been there. But of course we already know the answer, for “he has told you, O man, what is good” (Micah 6:8). Here he tells us even more simply what exactly he wants from us: to hear.

The Pharisees spun their wheels on them doing the right thing; they were the main characters in their world. But when God is all, we delight to hear what he’s got to say.

We can’t figure everything out and we can control very little. Let us then stick to what we were created for: following the wondrous voice of our Creator.

As one of the poets has said,

Trust and obey, for there’s no other way.
